John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid”. -John 14:27
If I were to charge for the number of times in a year I hear the lines, “I need some me time”, I would be the proud owner of an overflowing piggy bank, by the end of the year. An individual’s daily life’s walk is filled with responsibilities, obligations and uncertainties. I sometimes feel bemused when I come across individuals; who if I were to place on one side of a box, would be categorized as, individuals who only have time for individuals around them. Followed by, on the other side; I can place those who just don’t care about anyone but themselves. Which side of the box of individuals would experience peace the most? Sadly, none! Being fully immersed in helping those around could resultant in feeling weary. Detachment from those around could lead to, feelings of lack of appreciation or loneliness.
So, what is the right start to finding peace? It is, to stop trying so hard to uncover peace! Peace is not something that is lying in hiding. It is not exclusive to some; but is available to all. Peace as stated in John 14:27, has already been given to us. It is our inheritance. We don’t have to go on any quest to come across it.
When faced with turmoil on a daily basis, it could start to feel tough to handle it. Prioritizing things may work for some days, while other days may start to open up to more confusion. Some may find time away at a spa peaceful, others may find booking holidays far away from their home; remedial. This is what’s called the world’s cure for peace. It could be in the form of anything that gives one a temporary release of peace. A sense of tranquility experienced, which lasts only for the duration of time; away from the uproar. When one is dependent on the world to make peace with them; it disappoints.
The peace promised by Jesus is a peace that settles upon us when we receive him as Savior the first time and stays within us all times during our stay here on earth. We start to experience serenity in our utmost troubled times. We do not have to be dependent on external factors. Suddenly, you feel yourself lifted, flying above the bumps, on your journey road. You no longer feel troubled or afraid of uncertainties. You start to feel like, as it is stated in Philippians 4:7, “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”. You begin to recognize it; when it arrives. You feel as if you are floating, but truth be told, you are drowning in it. It shines all the way through you. Everything around you seems like it’s taken care of; moving smoothly.
Why then is it that many Christians don’t experience it? They just have not learned to differentiate the world peace from the inherent peace. They walk knowing but not claiming. Turmoil’s are always imminent. The peace, to which one should tap into, should be the one with which lays the intention of empowerment. Comprehend Colossians 3:15 “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful”.
When you can begin to sense the power of Christ’s unwavering peace within; nothing can shake you or break you.
