Ephesians 6:12

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high [places]”.

Last year an aunt of mine, initiated me into her Christian book club. The book selection for the month was the second part book from the Present Darkness series by Frank Perretti. When giving me the  first part book of the series, she dramatically and subtly mentions how the first part of the series had been a huge hit read in their book club. My aunt being well aware of my interest in ‘worldly’ fiction books and on how much an unnatural vista could get me all thrilled up, just knew exactly what to say to keep me captivated. I still remember accepting the book and deliberating within if to read or not. Deliberating on would I get bored?  Would the book be too deep to grasp?

My perception and views regarding spiritual fiction books have changed since reading the series. I now only read spiritual fiction/thriller books and have to admit, I thoroughly enjoy reading them. What attracts me the most to buy spiritual fiction books again and again is truly the knowledge and the awareness that spiritual warfare is a true phenomenon and how each and everyone of us experience it on a daily basis, at different intensities. I have to admit; I was, am, still am, and will always be in awe of the phenomenon. Ephesians 6 never will, read or look the same; EVER.

Previously, I had not noticed the comas emphasizing the lines in Ephesians 6, which resulted in not understanding the verse in its fullness. Now that I have come to cherish and understand the true meaning of this verse, it has truly helped me  to realize the power and strength oozing from it too, which empowers me each day, like a warrior all set to fight the daily spiritual warfare battle. Unlike people who maybe in denial with regard to spiritual warfare, I believe while we live in this world, we are definitely experiencing a daily spiritual warfare.

The Word states that ‘we’ as Christ believers, are on a constant battle with the demonic powers ruling this worldly realm. The fight we fight daily is the “soul” fight. It begins right from the time we begin to think, our thoughts form, they channel through us as actions, emotions, words, all that is not tangible that comes out from our ‘soul feed’. Warfare within and around us start with conflicts in us, then overflows into interpersonal conflicts among us.

Most, or all of the time, we lose our peace when we are around people who are in constant conflict with us ,whom majority of the time we cannot avoid or stay away from. They may be nagging, complaining, irritating, passing sly remarks, being rude, bullying, scary, abusive, over-protective, demanding or can be unaccepting. We should remember the verse, which states that it’s not flesh and blood that we are fighting but against powers that dwell in them. It is those powers that mess things in us, causing to quarrel within and among us. We are to rise above the clash within us, start to understand what dwell in us first, thus in turn helping us to understand others and stand strong when we confronted by them and for them. By remembering and practicing this, we will be prepared, warned, empowered to face our demons and also fight the powers that’s in others.

Hi, sorry for the delay in reply. Your comment went into the spam box. I use a BB and I can read it properly when it is on a moble site option and not full site. I am not sure about an Iphone. I shall try to ask any friends of mine to try and see.
